FOR ANY CIRCUIT BOARD OR LATCH PROBLEMS WITH 30/31 CHECK THE UNIT IS INSTALLED CORRECTLY. IF IT IS INSTALLED DIRECTLY INTO METAL OR UPVC AND NOT ISOLATED AS PER THE FITTING INSTRUCTIONS, IT IS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. IF INSTALLED INCORRECTLY, THE UNIT CAN BE AFFECTED IN DIFFERENT WAYS AND CAN EVEN WORK NORMALLY FOR SOME TIME. THE CUSTOMER CAN PURCHASE REPLACEMENT PARTS IF THEY WISH, BUT WE CAN NOT GUARANTEE THESE WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
Q I cannot find the product I have on your site and I need a spare part
A All the products on our site are current. It is possible that your product has been disconcontinued. You can purchase most spare parts and accessories for Staywell products which have been discontinued directly through our Consumer Services Department. Contact them using consumer@reilor.com
Q The cat flap is working in reverse.
A It is possible that the keys have been programmed in too far away. Reprogram the unit with the key touching the flap.
If this does not solve the problem, and if the unit has been fitted correctly, there may be a problem with the circuit board. In this case, please contact the Staywell Consumer Service Helpline.
Q The latch is self-activating (clicking up and down when the key isn't near).
A It is possible the cat flap is receiving interference from something. Check that all the electrical appliances (including mobile and cordless phones) are switched off whilst programming.
If the problem continues, we have different frequencies of keys (which can be purchased or sent free of charge if warranty terms can be met) and these will alter the frequency on which the cat flap currently operates therefore ruling out interference from anything else.
Q The keys work manually, but not when on the cat.
A The range of the key should be approximately 2 – 4 inches from these models. To improve the range the key should be programmed against the flap.
In some circumstances a different key may be appropriate, or in extreme circumstances, there may be a problem with the circuit board. In this case, please contact the Staywell Consumer Service Helpline.
Q The keys will not program into the unit
A Firstly ensure that all electrical appliances are turned off at the mains before powering the unit. Once the unit has been powered, and for best results, programme the key against the flap ensuring that the key remains held to the flap until the program button has been released.
If you are using more than 2 gold keys, they will not all program. The 30/31 only accepts a maximum of 2 different frequencies. The gold keys (which is what the cat flap will have been supplied with) are all different frequencies. Therefore, if you have more than 2 cats, you will require a different type of key. In this case, please contact the Staywell Consumer Service Helpline
Q The batteries are running out very quickly
A Battery life should be approximately 6 months with 4 x AA 1.5V Alkaline Long Life batteries. If this is not the case, please contact the Staywell Consumer Service Helpline.
Q The unit is completely dead
A Ensure that you are using 4 x AA 1.5V Alkaline Long Life batteries as rechargeable batteries run off a lower voltage. Remove batteries and leave out for 30 minutes to clear the memory. If nothing happens when the batteries are put back in there may be a fault with the circuit board. Please contact the Staywell Consumer Service Helpline.
Q The light on the circuit board is continually flashing
A This is perfectly normal. The LED flashes twice a second to confirm it is still receiving power.
Q The latch is not popping back up after it has been activated
A There may be a fault with the latch mechanism or the motor. Please contact the Staywell Consumer Service Helpline
Q Another cat is accessing the unit
A Can you open the flap from the outside by hand?
Yes
The latch mechanism is possibly faulty. Please contact the Staywell Consumer Service Helpline.
No
If the cat has no collar key on and the latch mechanism does not override when tested by hand, the intruding cat must be using excessive force to gain entry. This is extremely rare and takes an enormous amount of pressure from a cat.

It is not possible to cut holes in to existing glass, (single or double glazed units) because the glass will be toughened glass. You must therefore take your cat flap to a glazing company, who must reglaze the door, cutting the required hole in the glass before its toughened, or remove the glass section and replace it with a new upvc panel.
PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS FOR STAYWELL 30, STAYWELL 31 AND STAYWELL 500 BATTERY OR MAINS OPERATED CAT FLAPS
2 GOLD KEYS ONLY
- Ensure that the batteries have been left out of the unit for 10 minutes to allow the memory to clear.
- Ensure all electrical appliances are switched off.
- Insert 4 new AA non-rechargeable good quality batteries. The unit will emit a continual beeping noise.
- Hold the gold key up to the clear flap with the arrow pointing towards the cat flap and press the programming button. Keep depressed until the unit emits a buzzing noise.
- Keeping the key in position, remove your finger from the programming button. The unit should now be emitting a double-beeping noise. This means the key has been programmed successfully and can be removed.
- Repeat steps 4 – 6 with the second key. (If you only have one key, simply follow the same steps with the key you have just programmed.)
Once both keys have been programmed the unit will stop beeping but the LED light will continue to flash signifying that the batteries have power.
