| (A) FOR WOODEN DOORS, PANELS AND SCREENS 1 Place the template in desired position on door and draw round completely, (Fig. 1). We recommend that the bottom of the hole is approximately the same level as your pet’s stomach.
2. Cut out hole. This may be done by drilling a hole and then using an electric jig-saw to cut along the inside of the drawn line as in Fig. 2. Be careful to cut hole square to the door, particularly with thicker doors. For screen doors use scissors or a knife to cut the hole.
3. If necessary, cut interior frame with a sharp knife to correct length to suit your door panel. Take care to keep hands clear of the blade, and support inside of moulding with a suitable piece of wood as shown in Fig. 3. For panels from 0 to 5/8” (16mm) thick cut to line (A).
4. Position interior frame on inside of door and mark 4 screw positions. For panels less than 7/8” (23mm) thick: remove interior frame and drill screw clearance holes in panel to approx. 3/16” (5mm) diameter. Then, using the appropriate screws and working from the inside of the house, tighten the interior frame to the exterior frame as in Fig. 4. Use the screws as follows: Panel Thickness 0-1/8” (0-4mm) 1/8-3/8” (4-10mm) 3/8-5/8” (10-16mm) 5/8-7/8”(16-23mm) Screw length 1/2”(13mm) 3/4”(19mm) 1”(25mm) (not supplied) 11/4”(33mm)
For panels thicker than 7/8” (23mm) do not drill screw clearance holes: Instead first screw interior frame to inside of panel with short (1/2” / 13mm) screws. Next drill out the 4 screw holes in the exterior frame to allow close clearance on screw. (Recommended drill 5/32” (4mm) diameter). Finally fix exterior frame to exterior of door using 3/4” (19mm) screws. When happy with installation cover screw heads with caps supplied.
WALLS
After making a hole in your wall, line with 3/4” (19mm) plywood or similar material as shown in Fig. 5. This gives a neat tunnel to the installation and readily accepts the fixing screws. After construction of tunnel, proceed to step 4 above. To train your pet to use the cat flap, prop it open at first and use food as an encouragement.
